Presenting Streets Of Gold...
June 29, 2010
Hello,
I guess I just wanted to write a little thank you of sorts for the release of Streets of Gold. It has been a really wonderful and rewarding 6 months leading up to today, and we couldn't be more thrilled to put out new music. I think Streets of Gold started a long time ago, but concretely, Sean and I went up to a big house in Breckenridge, Colorado in the middle of January this year. We wrote about 18 songs up there in the freezing cold (some from scratch, and some over beats that I had programmed over the previous months, or even years). It was challenging, to be certain, but the most challenging part for me was the lead up to the writing process. We were concerned that, since our lives have changed rather dramatically, and we are now pretty constantly moving and traveling, it might be hard to draw from some so-called “real world experiences” and write songs that are true and have something to say. Additionally, we didn't want to succumb to any sort of second album slump. It is important (as I think it must be to every artist, no matter what they say) to please our fans, and our friends, and make music that they like. Conversely, I also think it is most important for us to make music that we like, and that appeals to Sean and me. Whenever we felt that external pressures were too high, or that anyone besides Sean and I and the other producers we worked with were trying to get involved in our music, we pulled back, fought to protect what is ours, and made music for ourselves.
We tried to continue the aesthetic and the goal that we have always strived towards - making music that is fun, catchy, and hopefully different and innovative. We have learned so much in the past couple of years in terms of song-writing and production, and it was extremely satisfying to be able to apply all of that new knowledge and technique to making another album, and hopefully show off a bit of what we've learned along the way! We had a lot of fun making a bunch of different sounding songs, and exploring different musical genres. I am looking forward to doing just that in the future, and creating more diverse and (hopefully) interesting music as we progress as artists.
We would like thank all of our fans, who allow us to do what we love for a living. It is incredible to travel the world, meet such wonderful people, play fun and crazy shows, and call that work! So once again – thank you so very much. Thanks to our families - we love you so much. Thanks to our friends (sure, friend - we'll put your friend's friend's cousin's friend on the guest list!). Thanks so our management team of Mike Kaminsky and Gabriel Apodaca, who have been with us since the beginning of things. Thanks to the wonderful and hard-working touring and label teams around us. Thanks to Greg Kurstin, Benny Blanco, and Matt Squire, for collaborating with us and having so much fun working together.
So without further ado – we present to you.....
